FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SOUTHERN CONNECTOR PASSES ANOTHER
MILESTONE
The 25 millionth transaction passes
through as roadway celebrates record
usage.
Greenville, SC - September 15, 2006
- Today marked a special milestone
in the life of Greenville’s Southern
Connector. The 25 millionth
transaction was Ms. Cindy Adams of
Simpsonville, who passed through at
approximately 10:50 A.M., on
September 15, 2006 highlighting the
Connectors recent success, as
traffic is up 17% for the month,
compared to September, 2005. Ms.
Adams, a “PalPass” member since the
Connector opened in March, 2001,
will receive $500 in free tolls and
a $100 gift certificate to Rick
Erwin’s West End Grill.
“As
the Southern Connector continues to
provide an alternative to busy I-85
and I-385 for area residents and
travelers, we are thrilled today to
continue this achievement by
celebrating the 25 millionth
transaction,” said Peter Femia,
executive vice president/ general
manager of the Connector 2000
Association. “With traffic
increasing and economic development
taking shape, we look forward to
years of future success as many more
customers utilize our roadway.”
The 16-mile Southern Connector was
opened eight and a half months ahead
of schedule and under budget. The
road was built with private money
through a unique public-private
partnership. No tax money was used
for construction of the road.
The Southern Connector has been a
dream of Upstate South Carolina
officials for some 30 years as they
sought a way to help relieve
congestion on area Interstate
highways 85 and 385 and to open up a
significant portion of Southern
Greenville County to economic
development.
